John has spent his working life in Information Technology, with & for a number of large Irish organisations across a range of industries from charities & credit unions to Wholesale drink distributors; Credit reporting & debt recovery to Paper & Packaging. Irish companies included Smurfits, Guinness, Cahill May Roberts, Showerings (Irl) & Cadbury’s - in the UK, Lucas Aerospace, Eastman Kodak.
Setting up his own software company in Ireland, his team of employees were responsible for delivering bespoke software solutions in the fields of accounting, credit reporting and automatic publications using Desktop publishing.
A lecturer in DIT since 1998, he now teaches on various technology related modules in the School of Media, Technological University, Dublin. He teaches Electronic Public Relations to the MA in PR cohort and Digital Public Affairs to MA in Public Affairs and Lobbying group. He delivers Introduction to Digital Technology & News Production for Print to undergraduate Journalism students.
